Epicurus: pleasure (tranquility is the goal)
Aristotle and Confucianism:
- the goal is eudaimonia / the goal is become a junzi (exemplary person)
- virtue is something you practice through habit/ritual (li)
- Aristotle says humans are political animals. ethics is social.
- education shapes moral character
- contrast:For Aristotle, the individual comes first conceptually, even though humans need society. For Confucius, the person is almost always understood within a network of relationships.
