England, 1772 - 1834
Coleridge saw poetry as a means of enjoyment and science as a means to scientific truth. According to him, however, the best poetry uses metaphor and imagery to express truth. He brought the ideas of Immanuel Kant to the literary circles of England.
Coleridge introduced the concept of a “willing suspension of disbelief”.
